Leadership in General Practice

From 2006 - 2012 Valerie Iles led the team offering the national leadership programme for the RCGP, which we called Better Leaders, Better Doctors.

In that time we worked with almost 150 GPs and others, challenging, supporting , irritating and enabling. It was hugely interesting and rewarding and great fun. We look forward to keeping in touch with our alumni through summer schools, round robins and email debates, as well as one-to-one meetings.

Having watched successive generations of Commissioners achieve much less than they hoped, Valerie has taken a six month sabbatical to develop a new concept of commissioning, an approach she calls Real Commissioning or Unlocking Commissioning. Her aim is to support, challenge and enable GPs taking on commissioning roles so that they can deliver an NHS they can be proud of.
